Green in 2018, mentioned that nursing began with Medicine Men and instead of disease, evil spirits were to blame. During the Middle Ages, Christianity was promoting self-care (Green,2018). Men were still primary caregivers while women would be deemed witches if they tried to provide care (Green, 2018). There was the period of the industrial revolution where there was a lot of migrating for work, overcrowding, and plagues spreading (Green, 2018). Then along came Florence Nightingale assessing conditions, diagnosing problems and creating solutions. Nightingale thought that “…health promotion, disease prevention, and risk reduction” were the basis of nursing care (Green, 2018, Chapter 2, p. 4).
